Six Beaches with "Gold Quality" - 2007

Quercus – The National Association for Nature Conservation, announced on the 1st of June 2007, the name of the beaches in Portugal that were rewarded with the “Gold Quality”.

This distinction is awarded to the beaches that in the last five years have presented a higher awareness of good quality of its waters. Of this list were excluded the bathing areas that resolved only recently their pollution problems.

In the council of Torres Vedras the following beaches were rewarded:

• Praia Azul
• Praia do Centro
• Praia da Física
• Praia do Pisão
• Praia do Mirante
• Praia do Amanhã

The 10 Commandments of Quercus for the Beaches

Get to know the 10 commandments that Quercus recommends for those attending the beaches this summer:

1. Make sure that the beach you are attending has the seal of quality control in its waters.
2. Make sure that the quality of the water in your beach is acceptable or, preferably good.
3. Choose one of the beaches with Gold Quality of Quercus.
4. Make sure of the infra-structures and means of security.
5. Make sure and contribute towards the cleanliness of the strand. Demand the total absence of dogs on the beach.
6. Avoid remaining on the beach at hours of extreme heat to avoid excessive sun exposure.
7. Avoid making noise
8. Protect the dunes and cliffs of the coastal beaches and natural vegetation.
9. Use less polluting transportation to get to the beach area, leave the car at home.
10. Inform the right people of what you feel is not right.

The “Gold Quality” is a classification awarded by the Water Institute by law of the National and Communitarian Legislation.

The Objective of Quercus is to emphasize the guaranties on the beaches that along various years (five, in this case), systematically present good quality, and thereby, in our understanding, present a higher awareness of the good quality of its waters.
