Praia da Física - Santa Cruz

Praia da Física is situated in the centre of Santa Cruz, almost at the beginning of Avenida do Atlântico and borders upon South with the Praia do Norte and North with the Praia do Pisão.

It is one of the most cosmopolitan beaches, introducing an extensive strand and an ample sea zone free of rocks. Not a very inviting beach for “swimming” but one of the most sought after for radical sports activities. Inserted in mid urban area, and endowed by various infra-structures and beach support, makes it cosy for Santa Cruz residents – walk to the beach.

Accessibility

Direct access through Avenida do Atlantico, in front of Colónia Balnear da Física, and with parking on the ramp with access to the beach. The access by foot can also be done down through a mixed route, composed of small ramps and a few steps.

Beach Characteristics

It is a marine beach, urban, no rocks and a sea with weak currents, with about 170m of extensive white strand.

Sea water temperature, in summer 19ºC and in winter 15ºC. Wind velocity is about 18km/h. Endowed with the blue flag, considered by Quercus as the “Beach with Gold Quality”, it is a supervised beach, with first aid, rescue equipment and lifeguards.

Infra-structures and Beach Support

It has a bar with a esplanade, at the end of the ramp, close to the strand, public toilets, cold water shower, fount ain with drinkable water, parking for cars and bicycles.

On this strand it is not possible to rent the typical beach cloth huts, but is totally available in all its expansion for the use of beach umbrellas.

Sports Activities

Beach mainly used for Surfing, Body-Board and Kite-Surf. Next to the bar is a surfing school and a beach where normally friends meet for a game of beach volleyball.
