Praia do Centro - Santa Cruz

The Praia do Centro, just as its name indicates, is situated in the centre of Santa Cruz, at the beginning of Avenida do Atlantico, and borders upon South with the Praia de Santa Helena and North with the Praia do Norte.

It is the beach that during the whole summer season receives the majority of summer spenders. Of easy access, with a vast strand and ample sea zone with no rocks, it is inviting for swimming and diving. Due to its localization in mid urban area, endowed with various infra-structures and beach support, makes it cosy for the residents of Santa Cruz – walk to the beach – and for those that arrive by public transport from the outskirts – borders upon the bus stop.

Accessibility

Direct access through the Avenida do Atlantico with an ample parking lot between the beach and the avenue. Access to the beach can be made through slightly inclined ramps or small sets of stairs.

Beach Characteristics

It is a marine beach, urban, without rocks and a sea with weak currents, about 290m of extensive white strand.

Sea water temperature in summer 18ºC and in winter 16ºC. Wind velocity is at 18km/h. Endowed with the blue flag, it is a well guarded beach, with first aid, rescue equipment and lifeguards.

Infra-structures and Beach Support

With 4 restaurants/snack bars and one bar/café close to the boardwalk, public toilets, parking for cars and bicycles.
The Strand is organized in two zones, one for rent of typical beach huts and the other for the use of beach umbrellas.

Sports Activities

Not usually utilised for the practise of Surfing or Windsurfing and in the summer season a special arena is formed for soccer and beach volleyball events.
