Ten Beaches with Blue Flag in 2006

The Portuguese Blue Flag Association announced on May 2006 the name of the beaches that would hoist the Blue Flag this year.

In the council of Torres Vedras the first beach to hoist a Blue Flag was Praia do Centro in 1987, and in relation to last year, one more beach was rewarded: Praia de Santa Helena. With ten beaches rewarded the municipallity of Torres Vedras is the third one that has more Blue Flags.

This year, 2006, the following beaches will hoist the blue flag:

• Praia de Santa Rita Norte,
• Praia de Santa Rita Sul
• Praia do Navio
• Praia do Mirante (Santa Cruz)
• Praia do Pisão (Santa Cruz)
• Praia da Física (Santa Cruz)
• Praia do Centro (Santa Cruz)
• Praia de Santa Helena (Santa Cruz)
• Praia Formosa (Santa Cruz)
• Praia Azul

The summer season starts on the 1st of June and ends on the 30th of September.

Information about the beaches rewarded in 2005...

"The Blue Flag is an environmental symbol of quality rewarded yearly to the beaches and marinas that candidate themselves and adhere to the group of criteria’s. For the beaches there are considered 29 criteria, of which, 23 are imperative and comprises of four chapters:

• Quality of the Water;
• Environment Information and Education;
• Environment and Equipment Management;
• Security and Services."
